In the early days of the breed, "almost anything in the shape of a Terrier having a long coat with blue on the body and fawn or silver coloured head and legs, with tail docked and ears trimmed, was received and admired as a Yorkshire Terrier". Breeding of the Yorkshire Terrier was "principally accomplished by the people-mostly operatives in cotton and woolen mills-in the counties of Yorkshire and Lancashire." They were originally bred to hunt small animals, such as rats. [ In the mid-19th century, workers from Scotland came to Yorkshire in search of work and brought with them several different varieties of small terriers. This happens to be a county in northern England. Yorkie History: The Yorkshire Terrier (also called a "Yorkie") originated in Yorkshire (and adjoining Lancashire ). In the United States, they have also been used to track wounded deer and hunt prairie dogs. The standard size dachshund was developed to scent, chase, and flush out badgers and other burrow-dwelling animals, while the miniature dachshund was bred to hunt smaller prey such as rabbits. If you have a few minutes, Please sign our petition to stop puppy mills. These are places that mass produce puppies, specifically for profit and don’t care at all about the dogs. If you are looking at breeders for new, designer dogs please beware of Puppy Mills. We will take a closer look at the history of both parent breeds below. Breeding specific dogs like this has become common in the last twenty years or so even though I am sure that this mixed breed found it’s share of dogs to the shelter due to accidental breeding. He will be turning two on June 14th.All hybrid or designer dogs are tough to get a good read on as there isn’t much history to them. He knows many basic commands like sit, lie down, roll over, stand, and even crawl (he crawls under things on his belly). I can now take him on long walks that would normally provide lots of distractions without even using a leash and he stays right next to me, waiting for the word on what is next (of course this is on the farm, not in the middle of town with cars). We use many of Cesar's training techniques with Winston, and they definitely work. I took this picture of him when he was playing on my parents’ farm. "This is Winston, my wonderful little Dorkie. Sissy enjoys playing with her toys and cuddling up to people."

She has a playmate who is a Lab / Shepherd mix Chloe is eight times as big as Sissy and it is fun to watch them play together. When it starts to warm up in the spring, her hair turns blond, but maintains much of the silver. Her hair changes colors depending on the weather. She was the only puppy from her litter that was silver. She is a 2-year-old Yorkie / Dachshund mix. He willingly gave up the position and the owners will need to be consistent with him in order to keep it away from him. It's very stressful for such a small dog to have to run an entire pack of humans! Barney proved to be rather submissive once it was communicated he was no longer in charge. When Barney realized he was no longer in charge he could relax. Barney the Doxie / Yorkie mix-realizing Barney had developed Small Dog Syndrome, as most small dogs do, the owners started working on getting Barney to heel on a lead while out on a walk.
